11.11.2020 | Safety of maritime transportation and port facilities in the focus of international webinar

Regular two-day webinar is dedicated to the subjects of provision of ship and port facility security. Representatives of Türkmendeňizderýaýollary Agency and State Customs Service of Turkmenistan took part in the session.

The event has been organized under Black and Caspian Sea Project for security and protection of the marine environment (BCSAE) implemented by European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) under financial support of the European Union.

The main goal of the project, which covers Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Turkey and Ukraine is to introduce international practice of solution of the above-mentioned issues to national specialists in the sphere of maritime transportation, to bring legal and regulatory base of coastal states in compliance with relative legislation of the EU.

It was mentioned at the online meeting that beneficial geographic location of Turkmenistan provides its strengthening status as an important transit and transport hub of Eurasia.

According to the policy of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and trying to implement significant potential available in this sphere, our country together with its foreign partners implement big projects of establishment of combined regional and interregional logistic system, formation of interstate transit corridors connecting Central Asia and Europe, Caspian, Black Sea and Baltic Regions, Middle and Near East, Southern and Southeastern Asia.

Constructive initiatives of the Leader of the Nation, which received wide support of the world community, are aimed at intensification of cooperation in transport sector.

Currency and relevance of these proposals are obvious as transport sphere is one of the main segments of the world economy, which make effect on stability and balance of international economic relations and achievement of the Global Sustainable Goals.

Making a speech in video conference format at the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which was held in the UN Headquarter in New York last September, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has focused on this subject in the context of recovery after negative social and economic impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.

Being one of the initiators of wide international communication on transport issues, our country proposes to review the issues of provision of stable international traffic during emergencies, the Leader of the Nation said, having noted that Turkmen side has developed relative draft Resolution of the General Assembly, which was sent to the UN state members for review.

The President of Turkmenistan says that Caspian Sea has to be considered only as a sea of peace, friendship and harmony.Based on the initiatives of the Head of the State, the agreements on cooperation in trade, economic and transport spheres as well as in the sphere of protection and rational use of aquatic biological resources of the Caspian Sea, emergency prevention and response have been developed and signed lately.

At present time, expert meetings are held for agreeing of draft agreements in the sphere of scientific studies and in search and rescue operations in the Caspian Sea, which development has been initiated by Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the V Caspian Summit in Aktau (Kazakhstan).

Advanced infrastructure of Turkmenbashy International Seaport is able to satisfy not only existing but also future demand with qualitative proposals and high-class service.

Control of ship navigation in port areas, loading and offloading works in all terminals are operated by automated systems and electronic technologies in real-time mode. For protection of the ecology of the Caspian Sea, the entire project has been developed in line with Green Port international standard.

The participants of the webinar have highlighted that development of international cooperation by Turkmenistan in the sphere of maritime transport is a confirmation of efficiency of the government policy of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in this sphere, which is aimed at expansion of economic cooperation, strengthening of relations for the sake of global peace, progress and development.
