The Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation (“Rossotrudnichestvo”) announced the competition for a new name of the agency.Now “Rossotrudnichestvo” is represented in 81 countries of the world by 98 representations: 74 Russian centres of science and culture in 62 countries, 24 representatives of the agency as a part of embassies in 22 countries.
The Russian centre for science and culture exists in Turkmenistan as well, therefore residents of our country also can show the initiative and take part in the competition.By the conditions of the event, the winner living abroad will receive a unique possibility to visit Russia with a tourist program as soon as the epidemiological conditions in the world allow it.
According to the head of “Rossotrudnichestvo” Yevgeny Primakov, such necessity has ripened for a long time: The network of our RCSC (Russian centres of science and culture) is a terrible abbreviation, in principle, like the word Rossotrudnichestvo itself, it is very difficult to pronounce for any foreigner”.
He notes that Rossotrudnichestvo should be more friendly in its name if the agency wants to be a symbol of good nature, friendship and openness.
The contest’s conditions include 3 important parameters: the name should consist of no more than two words, contain the root “Ros”, “Rus” or in the Latin variant Rus, it should be be euphonious and well received by people who speak the main UN language, also the new name should reflect the spirit of the organisation and and its mission is the implementation of international humanitarian cooperation, humanitarian diplomacy and assistance to international development.
Applications are accepted at newname@rs.gov.ru till January 3, 2021. In the mail it is necessary to fill out your name, contact e-mail address and phone. Each participant can offer no more than three variants of the new name and give for them a substantial explanation about the reason of its use.
The list of ten most suitable names will be announced on January 20, 2021, the popular voting further will be held. The final winner will be defined by the public council of “Rossotrudnichestvo”, its name will be announced on February 1, 2021.
