At the Cabinet session held on 3 April, 2020, which was devoted to the operations of the retail sector Deputy Prime Minister Chary Gylydzhov overseeing trade gave a progress report to President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov.
Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov highlighted that ensuring stable operations of the retail sector is one of the key objectives. The state information agency TDH reports that in this connection the head of state instructed that “sufficient stock of essential goods, including groceries” need to be set up.
The President also ordered “working out urgent measures with the view of providing support to privately-owned manufacturing facilities”. They are designed to promote entrepreneurship, prevent staff redundancies in companies and create new jobs.
Then the head of state severely reprimanded Gylydzhov for “improper execution of job-related responsibilities and weakening of the control over the performance of subordinate ministries and agencies” and issued the final warning to remedy the shortcomings in the shortest possible time frame.
The official received a similar reprimand in September 2019.
Later at the session Berdymukhammedov spoke about the negative impact of coronavirus pandemic on the global economy and instructed that the annual state budged be reviewed.
Over the past few years Turkmenistan has been experiencing a shortage of essential groceries.
The situation is especially complicate in the provinces which occasionally see the reduction in the rationing of flour and bread sold to residents at state prices.
