On 18 April, 2021 Myalikguly Berdymukhammedov, the father of President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, died at the age of 88.
Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” have not noticed any changes in the everyday life of Ashgabat in connection with Myalikguly Berdymukhammedov’s death.As of 19 April, the flags have not been lowered and there have been no mourning ribbons anywhere, including at the gates of the military unit named after, which is located near the Turkmen Agriculture University.
There have been many police officers on duty in central streets because of various events devoted to the upcoming anniversary of the capital. Protocol streets have not been cordoned off.
The commemoration events might be held in Firyuza where the President’s family lives, the access to which is closed to ordinary citizens. It is most likely that Myalikguly Berdymukhammedov will be buried in a cemetery in the village of Yizgant, his birthplace.
