OSCE Center in Ashgabat held a course on renewable energy

The OSCE Center in Ashgabat conducted a training course on best practices in developing targets for the use of renewable energy sources in Turkmenistan.

Course participants - teachers and students of the Turkmen State Energy Institute in Mary and representatives of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan discussed various scenarios for the development and implementation of large-scale projects on the use of renewable energy sources.

Taking into account the specifics of the climatic conditions in the country, among others, solar and wind power plants were considered.

John McGregor, Head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, noted:

The center has contributed to the development of several key policy documents that define the main direction of Turkmenistan's policy for a gradual transition to an economy with lower greenhouse gas emissions, he added. Among such documents are the National Strategy on Climate Change and the National Strategy for the Development of Renewable Energy in Turkmenistan until 2030.

A roundtable discussion was held by international experts from Austria and Belarus to share effective strategies and policies for the design and use of energy storage systems, and to develop targets for managing government orders in the energy sector.

The participants also discussed national priorities in the development of targets for the use of renewable energy sources, according to an OSCE press release.
