On 23 October, 2021 an event devoted to the opening of the Association of Friendship, Support and Cooperation of Turkmenistan” (“Türkmenistan Dostluk Yardımlaşma İşbirliği Derneği” (TDYID) was held in “Pullman” hotel in Istanbul.
The President of the Association, Yesugay Aksakal, a retired higher-ranking law enforcement officer, specializing in the fight against terrorism and protection of heads of state spoke at the festive opening ceremony.
The Association was launched at the initiative of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ankara. Among the event participants were officials from the Embassy and Consulate of Turkmenistan, Turkey-based Turkmen entrepreneurs, students and artists.
According to sources at “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”, TDYID was founded by agreement with the Turkish authorities as an alternative to informal groups of civil activists residing in Turkey.
Interlocutors of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” believe that ongoing detentions of Turkmen activists and the foundation of the Association headed by the former high-ranking police officer under the support of the Turkmen government suggest that the authorities of Turkmenistan are seriously concerned over the political activism of Turkmen nationals abroad. The post The Association of Friendship set up at the initiative of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Turkey first appeared on Chronicles of Turkmenistan.
