The National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO held a meeting

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan has become the venue for a regular meeting of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO with the participation of employees and heads of ministries and departments of the country, the Mayor’s Office of Ashgabat and journalists.

The meeting considered the nomination of a number of historical and architectural monuments of Turkmenistan for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List in the systematic nomination “Silk Road: Zarafshan-Karakum Corridor”, and the inclusion of Ashgabat in the UNESCO creative network of cities.

In addition, the participants of the meeting got acquainted with the steps undertaken to create UNESCO sub-departments in Turkmen universities, as well as to include some secondary educational institutions of the country in the network of UNESCO Associated schools.

It is worthwhile noting that the UNESCO Secretariat has already registered a nomination for inclusion in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of making dutar craft, the performing musical art of playing it and the art of bakhshi.

The UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee on the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity plans to consider this nomination at a regular meeting at the end of the year.

Moreover, work on nominations for inclusion in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of breeding the Akhal-Teke horses and Turkmen Alabaies is currently underway.
