On 7 August, 2020 the US Department of State changed Turkmenistan’s ranking and recommends reconsidering travel to Turkmenistan due to increased health-related risks.
It has been reported that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a Level 3 Travel Health Notice for Turkmenistan due to COVID-19.
In the meantime the website of CDC reports that COVID-19 risk in Turkmenistan is unknown. CDC recommends travelers avoid all nonessential international travel to Turkmenistan. Turkmenistan has not reported data on COVID-19 cases to the World Health Organization.
The US Department of State warns that that travelers to Turkmenistan may experience border closures, airport closures, travel prohibitions, stay at home orders, business closures, and other emergency conditions within Turkmenistan due to COVID-19.
On March 27, 2020, the Department of State ordered the departure of all family members of U.S. government employees under the age of 18 in addition to the authorized departure of non-emergency personnel and all other family members of U.S. government employees due to stringent travel restrictions and quarantine procedures.
