The negotiations between the World Health Organization (WHO) and Turkmenistan devoted to the visit of the mission’s experts have been almost completed.
“The WHO is in constant dialogue with its representation office in Turkmenistan”, – Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, told “Sputnik-Tajikistan” during a press conference held on 3 June, 2020.
Kluge added that the negotiations for organizing the WHO visit are being held with Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Healthcare.
“Ministers are imposing very stringent recommendations from the WHO. Within the next couple of weeks the visit of the WHO mission to Turkmenistan is scheduled to be organized”, – Kluge said.
The WHO Regional Director for Europe added that the necessary agreement had been reached and accommodation arrangements for the WHO experts were currently being made.
On 22 April, 2020 Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry Rashid Meredov refuted accusations that the Turkmen authorities are covering up confirmed cases of coronavirus.
On 23 April, 2020 it transpired that the WHO experts were scheduled to pay a visit to Turkmenistan to personally make sure there are no COVID-19 patients in Turkmenistan.
On 5 May, 2020 Hans Kluge reported in his twitter account that the WHO received an invitation from the government of Turkmenistan and was ready to deploy experts to review the coronavirus situation as soon as possible.
