As the ORIENT assumed, the export of Turkmen gas to the European market through the Southern Gas Corridor (through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey) was one of the topical issues of the talks held by Vice-Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov in Ankara.
Ankara is ready to do its part to bring Turkmenistan’s gas to Turkey and then, through Turkey, further to Europe. According to RIA Novosti, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoglu told a joint press conference with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov, who is paying a visit to Ankara.
According to him, this issue will be also discussed by the Foreign Ministers within the framework of trilateral format of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan,
“Ankara is pleased with the agreement reached between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan on development of the Dostluk field in the Caspian Sea,” the head of the MFA of Turkey said.
On the eve of the visit of Meredov to Ankara, ORIENT informed that during the talks od trilateral format of the heads of the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan, Turkey and Azerbaijan, the issue of delivery of Turkmen gas to Europe will most likely be discussed.
According to the expert community, the recent signing of a Memorandum between Ashgabat and Baku on joint exploration and development of the hydrocarbon resources of the Dostluk field in the Caspian Sea has put the project of supplying Turkmen gas to Europe through the Southern Gas Corridor back on the agenda.
