Turkmen embroidery art is to be nominated for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List

The preparation of joint proposals for inclusion on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity became the topic of an online meeting with representatives of the Cluster Office of this UN agency in the capital city of Iran, which took place at the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan on February 1.

During the videoconference, the multiple nomination file “The Embroidery Art” (“Keşdeçilik sungaty”), describing the ancient handicraft of the Turkmen people, which is an important component of the national cultural heritage, was discussed.

From time immemorial, hand embroidery has been illustrating the originality of the national traditions of the Turkmens, and the recognition of its importance on a global scale will contribute to preserving this form of folk art, further strengthen the ties between different cultures.

It should be reminded that the second meeting of the National Commission for UNESCO of Turkmenistan was held on January 30, at which issues on further inclusion of some historical and cultural monuments of the country on the UNESCO World Heritage List were discussed.
