Turkmen state-run shops experience a shortage of bread despite the President’s request to ensure abundance of groceries in the run-up to holidays

Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that in the run-up to celebrations of the Day of Neutrality the situation with regard to provision of groceries has exacerbated.

In the city of Yoloten, Mary velayat, bread in state-run stores is sold with a restriction of two loaves per household. Families are assigned to certain stores based on their place of residence.

Despite frosty weather, people start lining up for bread in front of shops at 4 a.m.

At the market the minimum price for a 50 kilo sack of locallyproduced flour is 300 manats. A kilo of Kazakhstan flour is sold at 11 manats.

The shortage of bread is noticeable even in the capital. Bread is delivered to shops three times a day but in small quantities and for this reason not all customers can purchase it. Residents start queuing up long before shops open.

Both in Yoloten and Ashgabat customers complain about low quality of bread, its sour flavor and unpleasant smell.

Let us recall that on 22 October Gurbanguly Berdymukahmmedov held a meeting with government officials, which was devoted to the provision of groceries in the run-up to celebrations of the 25the anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Independence and the New Year.

Despite this, the country is still experiencing a shortage of essential groceries. The post Turkmen state-run shops experience a shortage of bread despite the President’s request to ensure abundance of groceries in the run-up to holidays first appeared on Chronicles of Turkmenistan.
