Today, after its opening ceremony, Turkmenistan’s first golf club hosted the country’s first-ever golf exhibition tournament.Among the event participants is the legendary professional golfer, golf course designer and goodwill ambassador Jack Nicklaus.
His company, Nicklaus Design, provided a full range of design and consulting services for the first golf course in Ashgabat.Andy North, a two-time winner of the US Open in 1978 and 1985, was a partner of Jack Nicklaus.
A second duo consisted of the PGA Championship and the British Open winner Nick Price and the US Open and the PGA Championship winner Larry Nelson.Their match in Ashgabat showcased the beauty of golf, its passion and striving for victory of the golfers.
The game was hotly contested, especially when the golfers were playing the last holes, which are the hardest.The golf club’s impressive infrastructure, which meets international standards, enabled to demonstrate the advanced technique of hitting shots to come across various obstacles on the golf course, such as special sand-filled bunkers, water hazards, and high grass areas.
The weather, which is unusual for this time of year, made the match truly spectacular.Strong gust of winds forced the golfers to show great patience and make every effort to deliver a masterly performance.
Playing the 18th hole, the hardest one on the course, was the most impressive part of the tournament.The duo of Larry Nelson and Nick Price became winners.
They were ahead of their opponents by the number of holes they won, and captured the prize money and the Cup shaped like a bag with golf sticks.
