240 years ago, a man took to the skies for the first time in a hot air balloon

On June 5, 1783, the first human flight in a balloon took place. The pioneers of aeronautics were the brothers Jacques-Étienne and Joseph-Michel Montgolfier, who made the world's first public launch of a hot air balloon in the city of Annone (France), writes RT.

The balloon of French inventors rose to a height of up to 2000 meters and flew about 2.5 kilometers in 10 minutes. A ball of linen sack was filled with hot air, burning finely chopped damp straw and wool.

The whole city watched the conquerors of the air element, many engravings were created illustrating the flight. A fantastic event at that time shocked the whole world.

The successful experience of the Montgolfier brothers prompted researchers to test with people on board and to fly to higher and longer distances, writes rgo.ru.
