President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received the newly appointed UNICEF Representative, Christine Weigand, who presented credentials to the head of the state.Expressing gratitude for the opportunity of a personal meeting, the guest conveyed the greetings and best wishes from UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta H.

Fore to the President of Turkmenistan, reaffirming the high interest of the Foundation in further development of the fruitful dialogue with Turkmenistan.Welcoming the guest and congratulating her on the appointment to a responsible post, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov underlined that cooperation with the United Nations and its largest specialized structures was one of the key vectors of the foreign policy of neutral Turkmenistan.

In this regard, the head of state expressed satisfaction with the successful development of relations with UNICEF in various spheres.During the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan and UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan exchanged views on the successes achieved and the prospects for building up the partnership.

Christina Weigand emphasized that Turkmenistan demonstrated a very responsible approach to ensuring the best conditions for the comprehensive development of the younger generation, taking care of health and happiness of which stands as one of the most important areas of state policy.

As noted, due to fundamental reforms in the health care sector, Turkmenistan has achieved impressive successes in protection of motherhood and childhood.Expressing sincere gratitude to the head of state for the attention to the issues of cooperation with the United Nations Children's Fund, Ms.

Weigand noted that it was a great honour for her to work in Turkmenistan and assured that she would contribute to the successful continuation of the partnership.In conclusion of the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and UNICEF Representative expressed confidence that the traditional dialogue between Turkmenistan and UNICEF would dynamically develop.
