A landfill in Wales was put under protection because of a disc containing almost $2 billion USD worth of bitcoins

A landfill in Newport, Wales, has been turned into a secure area after a disc containing eight thousand bitcoins was accidentally dumped there.

Investor James Howells lost access to his cryptocurrency holdings ten years ago when his girlfriend accidentally threw away a disk containing the key to his Bitcoin wallet.

Today, the value of bitcoins on disk is estimated at almost 2 billion USD.

Howells spent a long time trying to find the missing media and finally came to the conclusion that it was in a landfill in Newport.

The man is ready to sort through tons of garbage at the landfill, but the local administration, knowing the value of the “treasure,” posted guards to protect the landfill from uninvited guests. Mail.ru reports this.
