Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” in Turkey, with reference to an official in Turkey’s Ministry of Healthcare, have reported that on 21 May a team of Turkish healthcare practitioners, including a renowned anesthesiologist, urgently departed to Ashgabat.
A total of 10 medical doctors, including three professors of Medicine from Istanbul clinic Mejidiýeköý Okmeýda, two professors from Şişli clinic (popularly referred to as the French clinic), two professors and an intensivist from the US clinic in Ýeşilköý as well as a doctor from the specialized physical rehabilitation centre took a morning flight bound for Turkmenistan.
On 21 May the Youtube channel ERKIN TÜRKMENISTAN reported that President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov had been admitted to hospital. Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” failed to confirm or refute this information.
According to the website of the OSCE, on 12 May the President of Turkmenistan met with the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Slovakia’s Foreign and European Affairs Minister, Miroslav Lajčák.
Later the footage of the meeting was shown in a news report of the Turkmen television channel.
It appears that a family member or a person from a cicle of close associates rather than the President himself needed medical assistance.
Updatе. According to the news outlet Turkmen Yurt TV, the President’s mother, Ogulabat Berdymukhammedova, is in critical condition.
