A resident of Ashgabat watches a flock of green parrots flying into the city alley

In the Turkmen capital, a large flock of green parrots was again spotted, which in the evening flies to the alley named after Atamurat Niyazov.

In the photograph taken by “Turkmenportal” reader Maria Ladyseva, 10 individuals can be seen. According to Maria’s observations, a flock of birds, exotic for these places, began to fly to the alley at the end of summer and feel quite at ease. Maria notes that birds organize “pre-wedding” fights here for the beautiful “parrot” half.

We are confident that the parrots spotted in Ashgabat back in 2021 have already grown into a large bird community living in the capital all year round, despite the rather cold winters. The birds have become accustomed to the urban environment and are actively breeding.

In 2021, we reported that a flock of 16-18 individuals was observed in the parks of the capital by Alexander Bagramov, an employee of the Nature Conservation Society of Turkmenistan. The ecologist suggested that these were Kramer's parrots - green with a red beak.

“Turkmenportal” intends to continue to monitor the fate of birds in the city and appeals to everyone who sees them regularly to inform us at the editorial office. We are also very interested in the opinion of ornithologists about the emergence and development of the tropical bird community in Ashgabat.
