The scientists of Queen's University Belfast (Ireland) have developed a unique virus-killing plastic that could make it in room lightning. Due to the thin layer of particles absorbing the ultraviolet and producing active forms of oxygen, the tape is able to be self-sterilization.
As per its creators, their development can destroy viruses, including SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19. As the publication writes plus-one.ru With reference to the Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology, the film was tested on two strains of influenza A virus, picornavirus EMCV and coronavirus.
At the same time, the development has shown effectiveness not only in ultraviolet rays, but also in ordinary room lighting. The creators suggest to use tis plastic tape in hospitals, public places and for packaging of products.
