Alec Baldwin to be charged with manslaughter

Actor Alec Baldwin will be charged with involuntary manslaughter of a female cameraman during filming, writes the RIA Novosti agency with reference to the message of the District Attorney of the State of New Mexico.

In 2021, on the set of “Rust”, Alec Baldwin fired a pistol during rehearsal, which was supposed to be loaded with blanks. For unknown reasons, the cartridges turned out to be live, cameraman Galina Hutchins died, and director Joel Souza was seriously injured.

According to Baldwin, he did not pull the trigger, the weapon fired spontaneously.

Assistant director David Halls made a deal with the investigation and took the blame for the negligent handling of weapons - he did not control what kind of cartridges the gun was loaded with, and handed it to Baldwin, saying that there were no live cartridges in it. In exchange for this confession, Halls was promised only a suspended sentence.

Even before the accident, some crew members complained that safety rules were regularly violated on set. The handgun handed to Baldwin was in disrepair, in addition, the weapon used for filming was not checked.
