April 12 is Cosmonautics Day

It was on this day April 12, 1961 when the world’s first spacecraft-satellite with a man on board was launched into earth orbit.

The first person, who conquer space, was a citizen of the USSR Yuri Gagarin. He went into space on the “Vostok” spacecraft and circled the Earth in 18 minutes. The Cosmonautics Day is celebrated not only in Russia, but also in many parts of the world.

In many countries this holiday is called the International Day of Human Space Flight, International Day of Human Space Flight (since 2011, when the UN General Assembly adopted the relevant resolution dedicated to the half-century anniversary of Gagarin's flight) and the World Day of Aviation and Cosmonautics, reports radiosputnik.ria.ru.
