On 16 May the state information agency TDH reported that new food processing facilities were opened to launch the manufacturing of import substitution products.
In particular, the food-and-vegetable canning factory with a capacity of 1 million cans a year was opened in the village of Chekir. Raw materials for the plant will be purchased from farmers on a contractual basis.
In Mary velayat the poultry production factory which, according to TDH, plans to produce 5 million eggs and 500 tons of chicken meat a year, was launched. It is emphasized that the produce will be sold not only on the domestic market but will be exported under the trademark Kekeç.
A livestock breeding complex with an estimated annual capacity of 100 tons of milk and 100 tons of meat was completed in Murgab etrap. Another similar facility with an estimated capacity of 3 thousand tons of milk and 100 tons of meat a tear was opened in Tejen etrap, Akhal velayat.
It should be mentioned that in late 2017 Turkmenistan experienced a shortage of basic good products such as eggs, vegetable oil, flour and sugar.
After that president Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov instructed to ensure “food abundance” in the country.
On 9 December 2017 the head of the state signed a decree on establishing Turkmenistan’s State Food Safety Commission.
