Ashgabat Hosts CIS Heads of Government Council Meeting

A regular meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council was held in Ashgabat. The forum was opened by Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Hojamyrat Geldimyradov, Turkmenistan’s official media reported Friday.

Prime ministers of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, heads of government and delegations from Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Armenia, as well as CIS Secretary-General Sergey Lebedev, took part in the meeting.

Participants discussed issues related to economic cooperation, digitalization and transport connectivity.

The heads of government also approved the CIS Strategy for Congress and Exhibition Activities through 2030, the Concept for Digital Transformation of the Mining and Metallurgical Industry and the Interstate Radio Navigation Program for 2027-2030.

The meeting reviewed the results of a program on the rehabilitation of territories affected by uranium mining activities and approved amendments to the agreement on the return of minors to their states of permanent residence.

Following the meeting, Minsk was named the CIS Youth Capital for 2027, while Karaganda received the status for 2028. The next meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council will be held in Moscow in December 2026.
