Ashgabat sees a price hike for meat

Since mid November prices for meat have gone up in Ashgabat markets. The price for a kilo of beef or lamb has increased from 30 to 35 manats whereas pork is sold at 36 manats per kilo.

Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that owing to the reduced demand vendors can offer lower prices. For instance, at “Gulistan” market a kilo of beef can be purchased at 33 manats. It should be mentioned that there are no price tags.

At “Bereketli market” price tags are available. The price tag says that a kilo of beef costs 24 manats but the meat is actually sold at 35 manats.

In early autumn the price of 18 manats per kilo was indicated on the price tags but the meat was sold at a higher price.

On 17 November bananas, sold at 6 manats per kilo, appeared on the counters of the state-run stored located at “Azatlyk” market (formerly, Tashauz market). Only сash free payments were accepted. In privately-owned stores they are available at 12 to 13 manats per kilo.

On 13 November the shopping centre “Gulistan” stopped accepting any cash.
