Azerbaijani President Congratulates Turkmenistan on 30 Years of Neutrality

The national leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, held a telephone conversation Thursday with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the press service of Azerbaijani Presidency reported.

Aliyev congratulated Turkmenistan on the 30th anniversary of its permanent neutrality and wished the country continued success. He said he would be unable to attend the Dec. 12 celebrations due to National Leader Heydar Aliyev Memorial Day, but Azerbaijan’s prime minister will represent the country.

The president expressed gratitude for the hospitality shown to a recent Azerbaijani delegation led by Leyla Aliyeva, vice president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. He also thanked Turkmenistan for supporting Azerbaijan’s participation in a consultative meeting of Central Asian heads of state and asked that greetings and congratulations be conveyed to Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

Berdimuhamedov noted Heydar Aliyev’s key role in developing bilateral relations.

The leaders exchanged views on issues of mutual interest and discussed prospects for future cooperation.

Aliyev visited Turkmenbashi on a working visit Aug. 22, 2025.
