Bananas are a source of magnesium and potassium, which relax tense muscles. They contain tryptophan, an amino acid that stimulates the production of calmness hormones. Experts recommend eating a whole banana before bed or making a smoothie out of it.
Magnesium is also found in almonds. In addition, the nut contains proteins that help maintain stable blood sugar levels during sleep and switches the body from activity mode to rest and digestion mode.
The somnologist suggests eating a handful of almonds for an afternoon snack or mixing it with milk and honey for a snack before bed.
