President of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA), Speaker of the upper house of the Parliament of Tajikistan Rustam Emomali Rahmon appealed to the United Nations to adopt a resolution and officially establish World Football Day, Hovar writes.

Currently, World Football Day is unofficially celebrated on December 10th.

“I propose to recognize the role of football at the global level and officially establish World Football Day at the UN by adopting the corresponding resolution of the General Assembly,” the news agency quotes Emomali as saying.

In his video message, the head of CAFA emphasized that football is a global cultural phenomenon that unites people of different nationalities and social classes. The Central Asian Football Association was founded in 2014 and is one of the five regional associations of the Asian Football Confederation. CAFA's headquarters is located in Dushanbe.
