Chinese authorities have temporarily permitted overseas higher education institutions and higher education institutions in the Hong Kong and Macao administrative regions, as well as Taiwan, to establish and operate universities and vocational schools in the Hainan Free Trade Port, reported “Xinhua” News Agency with reference to China Daily.
Also, foreign universities specializing in teaching medicine, engineering, agricultural technology and other natural sciences can create their campuses in the Hainan Free Trade Port.
Both Chinese and foreign students can study at these universities.
Previously, universities located outside mainland China had to coordinate their activities with partners on the continent.
This innovation is expected to attract a large number of foreign universities to China and increase opportunities for quality overseas education for Chinese students without having to travel abroad.
