Composer Sukhan Tuiliyev: Stages of my life

A symphonic concert titled “Ömrümiň bentleri” was held at the Magtymguly National Music and Drama Theatre in the capital of Turkmenistan.The program featured works by Honored Artist of Turkmenistan Sukhan Tuiliyev.

The concert was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the teacher, composer, and Candidate of Art History, Sukhan Allyevich Tuiliyev.The concert opened with the symphonic poem “Bentler”, dedicated to the folk bakhshi Gurt Yakubov, who became renowned for his unparalleled performance of traditional destans. “While creating this music, I was guided by two images: the bakhshi and the storyteller,” Sukhan Allyevich commented. “That is why the piece is called Bentler’, which means verses.’ This word is also reflected in the title of today’s concert.” The finale of the work was particularly unique—it ended with the sound of a breaking string.

The audience warmly received Sukhan Tuiliyev’s poem, applauding the composer, the conservatory’s symphony orchestra, and the conductor Dovletmammet Okdirov.The concert program also included vocal works by the celebrant.

The song “Nej oldy”, set to the words of Gulshirin Hanova, was performed by Guljemal Tuiliyeva.People’s Artist of Turkmenistan Atageldi Garyagdyev performed the song “Ýeldim tut!” from Magtymguly’s poetry cycle “Dünye heý.” Another musical legend, “Uzuklar,” was also performed during the concert.

According to the legend, three sisters competed to perform the maiden song “Lale” best.The roles were performed as follows: Uzuk on flute with orchestra (Oguljan Nepesova), Nyazik on clarinet (Shirkhan Batyrov), and Lyalik on violin (Seiran Ataniyazova).

An interesting detail: according to the legend, the youngest sister Lyalik stuttered, so her part was performed using plucking technique.The concert concluded with the cantata “Döwletli döwran,” based on poems by Atamyrat Atabayev.

The piece was performed by the symphony orchestra, the conservatory choir, and soloists Rovshen Bayramov (tenor), Vepa Odaev (tuyduk), and Bayramgul Akhmedova (gopuz).The audience greeted the jubilarian with warm applause.

Sukhan Tuiliyev and all the participants of the concert received bouquets of flowers and congratulations.
