Construction workers building a new capital of Akhal have not been paid for three months

Correspondents “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that construction workers mobilized in construction sites of the new administrative centre of Akhal velayat located in Geokdepe etrap, have had their paychecks delayed for three consecutive months.

Their complaints to the public prosecutor’s office have not brought about any results because, according to the workers, construction companies are owned by the President’s family and his entourage.

A school, a hospital, khyakimlik’s office, the court building, a police station and residential houses are currently under construction. Unskilled workers, concrete workers, plasterers and other specialists engaged in construction works are quitting jobs at construction sites after losing hope to receive remuneration for their work.

Migrant workers from other regions have also been employed in these construction sites. They are unable to make a living and pay rental fees for accommodation, let alone to provide for their families.

According to an experienced construction worker who is currently building a hospital, when Turkish construction companies also had wage arrears 10-12 years ago, the public prosecutor’s offices would interfere and make the Turks pay their staff.

Let us recall that in late December it was also reported that some 1500 public sector employees in Lebap velayat had not received their salaries for three months (September, October and November) because of the economic crisis.

On 13 January, 2021 President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov was informed that the first sites in the new administrative capital of Akhal velayat were scheduled to be commissioned this year.

In October 2020 the President ordered to expedite construction works in the new capital of Akhal. The post Construction workers building a new capital of Akhal have not been paid for three months first appeared on Chronicles of Turkmenistan.
