The international exhibition and conference “Turkmentravel 2026” has opened in the capital of Turkmenistan.The forum has brought together heads of government institutions, representatives of the private sector, and experts from international organizations on one platform to discuss the future of the region’s tourism industry.
One of the key events of the conference was the speech by Cordula Wohlmuther, Regional Director for Europe at the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism).She noted that Central Asia is rapidly becoming one of the most promising tourism regions in the world due to its safety, stability, and unique cultural heritage.
According to the UN Tourism representative, Turkmenistan’s role in shaping a strong regional brand is strategically important.Further cooperation between the organization and Turkmenistan will focus on introducing modern technologies into tourism services, attracting investment in environmentally sustainable infrastructure, and developing new routes and unique tourism products. “Turkmenistan has all the prerequisites to become a competitive player in the global tourism market,” stated Cordula Wohlmuther.
The Regional Director of the World Tourism Organization also confirmed UN Tourism’s readiness to provide comprehensive support to the country.According to the expert, unlocking Turkmenistan’s tourism potential will not only create new economic opportunities for the population but will also make a significant contribution to building a more sustainable and inclusive global tourism sector.
