8 June 2026 the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), in cooperation with the Government of Turkmenistan, the Institute of Seismology and Physics of Atmosphere of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, and the National Data Centre (NDC) of Turkmenistan, today launched the Regional Workshop and Integrated Training for National Data Centres in Ashgabat.
The event, taking place from 8 to 12 June 2026, has brought together 25 participants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.It aims to strengthen the capabilities of National Data Centres and enhance the effective use of International Monitoring System (IMS) data and International Data Centre (IDC) products in support of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) verification regime.
The training coincides with the visit of Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the CTBTO, to Ashgabat, where he is participating in a high-level meeting marking the 30th anniversary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.
During his visit, he is expected to meet with workshop participants and discuss the role of National Data Centres in supporting the CTBT’s global verification system.The programme includes training on accessing and analysing IMS data, operating the NDC-in-a-Box software suite, and using seismic analysis tools such as SeisComP and Geotool.
Participants will also visit the National Data Centre of Turkmenistan.The workshop provides an important opportunity for technical exchange and regional cooperation among National Data Centres, contributing to stronger verification capabilities and scientific collaboration across the region.
