Turkmen officers and soldiers are getting prepared to mark their professional holiday the Day of Defenders of the Fatherland, which is celebrated on January 27.In honor of the significant event, the main State Museum of the country hosts the exhibition titled “Defense of the Fatherland is Sacred”.

The exposition features the museum values related to the long history of the armed forces of Turkmenistan.

Written documents, archive photographs and relics of the Great Patriotic War that are part of the depositories and funds of the museum are exhibited.The halls display a collection of cold arms and firearms of Turkmen soldiers of the 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as front helmets, binoculars, field telephones and one of the most valuable exhibits the legendary T-34 tank original layout that has been given as a present to farmer Lallik Hanov by Soviet Marshal Pavel Rybalko.

Turkmen soldiers have long been respected as courageous and brave.The heroic feat of Aydogdy Tahirov, who participated in the battles in the city of Staraya Rusa, Novgorod region, Russia, during the Great Patriotic War, is described in detail in a newspaper reporting that has turned yellow due to time passed.

Dzhigits and best riders from childhood, Turkmen people created horse divisions. Akhal-Teke horses faithfull assistants to the soldiers, also had equipment and ammunition. Antique saddles, traditional silver and gold horse jewelry are presented among the rare exhibits of the exhibition.
