Delegation of Turkmenistan’s National Parliament to Attend 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly

Delegation of the National Parliament of Turkmenistan headed by the Chair of the Parliament, A.Nurberdiyeva, will participate in the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly that will take place on 14-18 October in Saint-Petersburg (Russian Federation). The main theme of the forum will be Promoting Cultural Pluralism and Peace through Inter-Faith and Inter-Ethnic Dialog.

Inter-Parliamentary Union is the oldest international parliamentary organization.It was founded in 1889 and unites parliamentarians from 173 countries and 11 inter-parliamentary organizations.Throughout its history, the IPU promotes development of parliamentarianism, respect for human rights, as well as building inter-ethnic peace and safeguarding international security.

This is one of the most reputable parliamentary organizations in the world.

The Assembly promises to become the most ambitious in the history of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in terms of participants. One of its central events will be the adoption of resolution “Sharing Our Diversity: The 20th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Democracy”.

The agenda includes holding thematic meetings and sessions, such as the Forum of Women Parliamentarians and Forum of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.Sessions of the Standing Committees of the IPU will also take place, including the Assembly Steering Committee, Committee on Democracy and Human Rights, Committee on UN Affairs, Committee on Sustainable Development, Finance and Trade, Committee on Peace and International Security.

Sessions will be organized for six geopolitical groups of the Inter-Parliamentary Union: African, Arab, Asia-Pacific, Eurasian, Latin American and Twelve Plus (countries of Western and Central Europe, Canada and several other nations). During the Assembly in Saint-Petersburg, the new President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union will be elected.

The events of the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly will take place at three venues: Expoforum Convention and Exhibition Center, Tavricheskiy Palace and Parliamentary Center.
