Development of Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-India Transport Corridor Discussed in Tashkent Meeting

The officials of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan in a meeting with a delegation of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Tashkent on Tuesday discussed issues of development of transport corridor Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-India through the port of Chabahar.

“At the talks, the sides agreed to develop a feasibility study of a new transport route, which is being created in connection with the need to serve the growing trade between Uzbekistan and India, which in the near future will reach $ 1 billion,” the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan said in its Thursday press release.

The transport corridor is also designed to ensure the continuity of supply of products as part of the trade turnover between Central Asia and India, aspiring to the mark of $3.2 billion a year.

The Chabahar port located in southeastern Iran, on the Gulf of Oman, is the country’s only deep-water port, and consists of two separate ports named Shahid Kalantari and Shahid Beheshti.
