Due to the cold winter, the “Christmas star” has not yet bloomed in the greenhouse of the Ashgabat Botanical Garden

In the greenhouse of Ashgabat Botanical Garden due to cold winter the blooming of puansettia, known as “Christmas star” is delayed, informs the publication “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.

The plant came from mountainous districts of Mexica and Central Amerika. Its flame-colored flowers explode in December on Christmas holidays, that is why occurred its very distributed name “Christmas star”.

Puansettia soundly settled down not only on mountain slope but also in home conditions.The people tend to endow the plant with mystical properties.For example, if there is an ill-wisher in the house, the poinsettia will begin to turn yellow and may even die.

It is also believed that a pot with a plant in the room of the newlyweds is a guarantor of the early appearance of a newborn and good relations between spouses.

The chief of biological observation and seed bank department Gulzar Bazarova:

Now, in January the biggest flower of puansettia is opened only by one third.

In our Botanical Garden, something is always blooming. The next for blooming is Japanese quince which is usually blooms in February, but in conditions of current winter, it is possible that it also will be late in bloom.
