Ethiopia temporarily bans air passengers from exporting coffee

Ethiopian customs authorities have temporarily banned the export of Ethiopian coffee in any form or quantity by air passengers. Those leaving Ethiopia were advised to take into account the ban in order to avoid unpleasant situations at the airport. The Russian Embassy in Addis Ababa issued a corresponding warning for air passengers, reports TASS.

“When planning trips, in order to avoid unpleasant situations at the Ethiopian airport, we advise you to take this information into account”, - says a message published on the official Telegram channel of the embassy.

Coffee is considered the main export crop for Ethiopia. According to the International Coffee Organization, Ethiopia is the leader among African countries in coffee production and ranks fifth in the world for this indicator, behind only Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia and Indonesia, the source notes.

Let us also remind that only Arabica grows in Ethiopia, which has enormous genetic diversity. In some regions of the country, you can find coffee varieties that are not found anywhere else in the world.
