International consulting firms RINA of Italy and HPC Hamburg Port Consulting of Germany have secured a five-year contract under the OSCE project “Promoting Green Ports and Connectivity in the Caspian Sea Region,” RINA announced Monday.
The project, initiated by the OSCE Office of the Co‑ordinator of Economic and Environmental Activities (OCEEA), covers key ports on the Caspian and Black Seas, including Baku, Aktau, Kuryk, Turkmenbashi, and Batumi. It aims to support growth in transit traffic while reducing environmental impact and strengthening port infrastructure resilience.
The third phase focuses on five areas: adopting renewable energy, enhancing climate risk resilience, developing digital monitoring systems, promoting gender equality, and training staff. Emphasis is placed on expanding regional cooperation and aligning port strategies across the Caspian region and the South Caucasus.
Over five years, RINA and HPC will prepare analytical reports and transition plans for each port, along with technical solutions for pilot projects.
Caspian Sea ports are also considering the launch of a “Maritime Single Window” initiative.
