Farmers in Turkmenistan’s western region of Balkan have completed sowing of potatoes on 600 hectares, and onions on 500 hectares of land. In the future, farmers expect to harvest 8,400 tons of potatoes and 12,500 tons of onions.
Crops such as tomato, carrot, cabbage, cucumber, melon and watermelon are also planned to be planted on 2,370 hectares of land this year in Balkan, the country’s official media reports.
Farmers of the Goç farmers’ association of the region’s Serdar etrap and the Türkmenistan association of Bereket etrap make every effort to complete the sowing on time, according to the report.
During a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers in April 2021, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed the Vice-Premier Chary Gylyjov and the heads of the country’s trade complex to take additional support measures to create sufficient supplies of stocks of certain products, especially food.
