First Kazakhstan-Turkey Freight Train Passes Through Turkmenistan

The first freight train along the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Turkey Corridor passed through Turkmenistan on Friday morning and arrived in Iran’s Tehran station on Saturday, Tehran Times reported on Sunday.

Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakhstan Railways) in its press release on the freight train said the new logistics solution is attractive for shippers, primarily due to the delivery time. In comparison with the alternative route via the Caspian Sea the train will cover the distance of over 6,300 km in 12 days, the Kazakh railway company stated.

A pilot train of 48 containers loaded with sulfur was formed at Pavlodar station in Kazakhstan. Its final destination is the Turkish station Payas.

Such fast delivery of freight to the Persian Gulf and Turkish markets is expected to become a regular service in the future.

Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan- Iran railway corridor was officially put into operation at the end of 2014.
