First Russia-Saudi Arabia Freight Train Passes Through Turkmenistan

The first Russian freight train en route to Saudi Arabia passed the territory of Turkmenistan to Iran, Tehran Times newspaper reported on Sunday, with reference to the Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways Miad Salehi.

A train with 36 containers, which follows the North-South International Transport Corridor, arrived at the Inchehborun rail border crossing with Turkmenistan, Miad Salehi announced.

Salehi added that the paperwork for the Russian train was finished and it was sent to Bandar Abbas, a port city in Southern Iran, to be shipped to Saudi Arabian port city of Jeddah.

The cost of goods transit through the North-South corridor has been decreased by almost half as a result of the reduction of the customs tariff, the official underlined.

The freight train moves through the eastern branch of the North-South land corridor using the transport infrastructure of Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran.
