Following his son’s visit, Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov inspects a new clinic in Dashoguz and calls for practical use of medications

On 31 May in his capacity as Chairperson of Halk Maslahaty of Milli Gengesh (upper chamber of Turkmenistan’s Parliament), Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov arrived in Dashoguz on a working visit and inspected the new general hospital, which had been opened three days before, to hold a meeting devoted to public health protection, the state information agency TDH reports.

On 27 May in a festive ceremony on 27 May President Serdar Berdymukhammedov opened the general hospital and oncology clinic in Dashoguz.

According to sources of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”, bribes for securing a job in these medical institutions vary from $2000 to $5000.

At the hospital the former President inspected departments and talked to children scheduled for surgery. Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov pointed out that the children’s treatment will be handled by healthcare practitioners until they are fully recovered when they will also receive any required medical assistance, TDH reports.

According to tradition, the children recited poems to the former President and parents thanked him “for creating conditions for children’s development and improving public health”.The Chairperson of Halk Maslahaty emphasized that funding will be allocated from the charity foundation for those in need.

Independent media outlets have frequently reported that Turkmen residents often ask for financial assistance for their treatment.

Berdymukhammedov senior presented gifts to children and then had a meeting with Deputy Minister of Healthcare and Medical Industry A.Germanov and the hospital’s chief physician Kh.

Gurbanov.The former President inspected certificates awarded to the clinic and instructed they be updated in a timely manner.He also discussed performance reviews for all specialists of the clinic, especially doctors.

“When streamlining hospitals it is necessary to take into account the market economy and strictly control the rational and the designated use of medications and equipment purchased from private and federal budget funds”, – Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov was quoted as saying.

The former President also asked for efforts to be intensified to prevent in “preventing negative effects caused by the drying out of the Aral Sea, and minimize harmful effects on health taking into account external factors which have recently emerged”.

Let us recall that the mask mandate and other prevention measures had been introduced in Turkmenistan because of the alleged negative impact of dust particles brought from the Aral Sea.

COVID-19 cases are still denied by the Turkmen authorities.

“Doctor Arkadag” instructed that “the general hospital and the oncology clinic in Dashoguz as well as the proposed Centre for Protecting Maternal and Child Health will be committed to preventing the negative impact of the Aral Sea and the treatment of children’s diseases.
