On 27 June, 2021 President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov held a regular meeting with executives of Turkmenistan’s Extraordinary Commission on combatting the spread of disease and COVID-19 response – Minister of Healthcare Nurmukhammed Amannepesov and Deputy Minister of the Interior Ovezdurdy Khodzhaniyanov to discussed the COVID-19 pandemic.

After the hot weather set in, many Ashgabat residents did not wear any masks outside while the law enforcement officials were not paying attention.

However, on 27 June, 2021 numerous police patrols appeared in residential districts to who detained those violating the mask mandate. For example, some residents were detained in the 10th, 11th and 30th districts as well as “Altyn Asyr” markets.

All violators were brought to the nearest police stations where police officers completed detention reports and imposed a fine of 25 manats.

It was previously reported that on 19 June, following the previous session of the Emergency Commission officials of the Ashgabat administration started closing stores located in the basements of residential houses.
