Foreign policy of Turkmenistan: priority - international cooperation

In the new historical conditions of the XXI century, the President of Turkmenistan, implementing a far-sighted policy based on the principles of peace, promotes international initiatives to create transit and transport infrastructure.

The head of state attaches great importance to the implementation of these initiatives, which contribute to the harmonious development of the countries of the world.Perhat Charyev, a senior lecturer at the Department of International Economic Relations of the IIR of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, writes about this in his article for Arzuw.News.

At present time, one of the main directions of the “Concept of foreign policy of neutral Turkmenistan for 2022-2028” is the promotion of large regional energy, transport and logistics projects within the UN. Turkmenistan maintains a multilateral strategic partnership with the United Nations.

As the author notes, large-scale projects implemented jointly with this authoritative organization over 31 years of cooperation, the results achieved are a clear example of Turkmenistan’s ability to promptly resolve pressing issues of the world community.

On September 19, 2023, while on a working trip to New York, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. This, according to the author, indicates Turkmenistan’s commitment to the principle of broad international cooperation.

The article further notes that speaking at the UN, the leader of Turkmenistan expressed the state’s priority views on regional and global problems, as well as new initiatives aimed at expanding effective international cooperation in the interests of global welfare and development.

In addition, the author emphasizes that over the years of independence, Turkmenistan has repeatedly chaired sessions of the General Assembly and sponsored more than 20 unanimously adopted resolutions of the UN General Assembly.

On December 19, 2023, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, at the 49th plenary meeting of the UN General Assembly, two new resolutions were unanimously adopted: “The key role of a reliable and stable energy connection in ensuring sustainable development” and “Strengthening connections between all modes of transport to achieve sustainable development goals”.

This, according to the author, is another success of the country’s foreign policy.
