Former Chairperson of Turkmenistan’s Migration Office arrested for bribery

On 3 December, 2019 Turkmenistan’s Prosecutor General Batyr Atdayev briefed President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov that former Chairperson of Turkmenistan’s Migration Office had been arrested on charges of large-scale bribery.

“When occupying the position of Chairperson of Turkmenistan’s Migration Office, Nobatov abused power for his own profit and coerced bribes”, the state information agency TDH reports.

It should be highlighted that the official was dismissed from his post “in connection to assuming a new job” in November 2017.

TDH does not specify where he has been employed over the past two years.According to sources of Turkmen news, Nobatov headed the President’s security service.

Commenting on the arrests of Nobatov and Mulikov, President Berdymukhammedov was quoted as saying: “Let no one think that they will manage to cover their wrongdoings and be considered innocent as a civil servant is the public eye”.
