The ceremony to mark the foundation laying of the main mosque of Turkmenistan’s Ahal province took place in the new city of Arkadag on Friday, the country’s official media reports.
President of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation Rustam Minnikhanov took part as an honorary guest in the laying ceremony.Honorary elders, ambassadors of the Muslim countries accredited in Ashgabat, as well as members of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, heads of ministries and departments, province governors, representatives of the culture and media were also present at the ceremony.
After the ceremony, the participants of the laying ceremony proceeded to the Gokdepe Mosque of Ahal province, where a festive sadaqah was organized.
The total area of the Ahal province’s Main Mosque will be 34.5 hectares. More than 15 thousand worshippers will be able to read prayers at the mosque simultaneously. The mosque building will also have a building designed for holding sadaqah meal for one and a half thousand people.
The construction of the mosque will be carried out by the winner of an international tender, member of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan, Altyn company.
