GS1 to Introduce New GTIN Management Rules

A meeting of GS1 in Europe Board of Directors was held online on April 21-22. The meeting’s agenda included the discussions on new GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) management rules, which are planned to be introduced by July 1, 2022.

The event gathered the heads of 48 national GS1 organizations, including the Chairman of GS1 Turkmenistan Aykamar Myalikgulyeva, according to a press release issued by GS1 Turkmenistan.

The participants also discussed the issues of improving the mechanisms of GS1’s activities at the regional and global levels, the possibilities of increasing the efficiency of the use of barcodes, and a number of organizational issues.

Representatives of the national organizations in the region informed about the main areas of their work, topical issues related to the promotion of GS1 standards in specific countries.

GS1 is an international non-profit organization that develops and maintains global standards for business communication. GS1 standards are designed to improve the efficiency, safety and visibility of supply chains across physical and digital channels.

The GTIN, developed by GS1, is an identifier for trade items.
