Head of National Iranian Gas Company confirms refusal to export gas from Turkmenistan to Iraq and Turkey

Negotiations are underway between Tehran and Ashgabat on a deal to swap Turkmen natural gas to the Persian Gulf region, Hamid Reza Araqi, managing director of National Iranian Gas Company told the news outlet IRNA.

According to Araqi, as of today the sides have discussed swapping natural gas from Turkmenistan to Iraq, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia.As a result, Iran finally disagreed on a deal to swap Turkmen gas to Iraq and Turkey.

However, the managing director of NIGC said there is no problem with swapping the country’s natural gas to the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Turkey and Iraq remain to be main importers of Iranian gas and Tehran intends to increase gas exports to these countries.
