History, Traditions, Styles: At the Heart of an Exhibition

Organized as part of the events celebrating 25 years of the country’s neutrality, an exhibition at the Expo Center was one of the notable highlights of the capital’s cultural life last week.

Characters in paintings by young Mary-based artist Bayram Nuryev tell stories about the Turkmen nation’s openness, traditions and customs. Symbolist paintings: “A Camel Race”, “A Wedding Procession” and “New Life” captivate viewers with their allegorical character and vibrant colors.

It is a pleasant surprise for visitors to the themed exhibition to see works by amateur artist Klavdia Durdyeva. When Klavdia, a builder by occupation, retired, she decided to fulfill her long-held dream and took up painting.

Over the last four years, she has created some 70 paintings in a quite professional way.It is probably an illustrative example of there is no sense in trying to teach someone who has natural talent’.

… Ripe, juicy pomegranates in a painting symbolically entitled “Prosperity” occupy the whole of the canvas. The vitamin-laden, delicious and beautiful fruits are associated with our country’s prosperity.

The artist’s another work depicts this juicy-looking fruit as well.It is the centerpiece of an intricate ornament executed in harmonious colors and made up of ripe pomegranates crowned with glistening seeds.

Klavdia Durdyeva’s seascape painting “Breaking Dawn” is poetically wonderful. The expressive fiery colors of sunrise are well balanced with the exquisite and lace-like sea waves gently lapping the shore.

Works by Rustam Abdullaev are truly eye-catching.The artist’s “Father” portrays a young man full of energy and strength, walking briskly and carrying his children, household items, carpets… When looking at the painting, a popular slogan comes to mind: “Fathers can do anything!” The work would be simply remembered for its positive subject matter if it were not for “Mother Cow”, a painting displayed next to it that makes the painterly tribute to fathers rather philosophical.

The duo is perceived metaphorically: a man is the protector of the family and a woman is the guardian of peace…

A painting by Gulnaz Rozykulova transports visitors back in time to Ancient Egypt, offering a fascinating glimpse at the fierce rivalry between Egyptian Pharaoh Akhenaten’s two wives legendary beauty Queen Nefertiti the chief wife and the second wife, Kiya, who stayed in the shadow of Nefertiti for long …

Many visitors to the Expo Center always look forward to every new exhibition to discover unknown facets of their favorite artists’ talent.A notable example is Aya Serkhenova’s “Bouquet” featured in the exhibition.

Despite its trivial title, the painting amazes viewers with its color palette and meaningful context.Miniature human figures make a harmonious whole with the flowers taking the form of their petals, stems and leaves.

The Symbolist painting is an allegory of harmony between people and nature.

I have told only about a part of the multi-genre exhibition showcasing the painterly interpretations devoted to the significant date in the country’s history. On display are also stylistically diverse ceramic works, a series of historical paintings, paintings celebrating the national values, cultural heritage and achievements of the modern epoch.
