There is a parable.When human tamed wild animals at the dawn of civilization, it brought the plate with food to the dog. “He loves me so much if he shares his food with me” the dog thought.
When he put a plate with food in front of the cat, the cat thought “he needs me so much if he shares his food with me”.
The human found the key to the hearts of these animals and placed them next to him the cat in the house and the dog in the yard.Everyone had their own responsibilities the cat was catching mice while the dog was protecting the house.
This is the way it was from the times primordial the cat and the dog became most loyal friends to the human.
Many things have been changed since those times and people started forgetting an important postulate we are accountable for those we tamed. Sometimes it happens that people desert their pets by some reasons dooming them for homeless life.
Look into the eyes of deserted dog and you will see the endless grief. Besides, psychological trauma, constant malnutrition, lack of sanitary treatment are conducive to the diseases, which spread from one homeless animal to another.
Deserted pets are the problem of not just one city and one country. It is very good that we have such enthusiast among who spare no time and efforts to everything possible to help the animal in trouble.
Tatyana Galberg is one of such people.She is a head of astray animal shelter “Unytlar Adasy” (the Island of Hope) officially registered in Turkmenistan.At the moment, there are more than 100 deserted dog and 50 cats at her country cottage in the outskirts of Ashgabat in Anau.
Tatyana, her husband Nikolai and two daughters Ira and Katya surrounds them with love and care.
- Tanya, the mission you have is very accountable and labour intensive and by the essence, all your life is dedicated to your pets. How did it come to realize that this is your calling?
- My father used to work in Solntse (Sun) Scientific and Production Association and often took me the field camp in the summers.Once, my friend and I picked up blind kitten.
We found nursing cat to save him but it did not accept the founding.Then we tricked it and started to lure it with sausage.The cat gave in to it and whole it was enjoying the food our kitten was eating her milk.
This was the way we brought it back to life.Upon return home, I surely took it with me.
We lived in Hivaly Babayev Street; there were chickens and rabbits bred in our farm.Being a small girl, I used to bring home every living creature that needed help - sometimes it was a fledgling fallen from the nest, sometimes lost kitten.
My parents did not make any objection.Knowing that we would accept everything, know and unknown people started to bring kittens and puppies to us.The number of dogs increased we moved to the country house in Choganly.
My husband and daughters help me a lot.Ira is dreaming to be a veterinarian and Ksyusha is seriously carried away by biology.I think their choice was affected by the atmosphere of love and compassion on the animals in our family.
We think we are responsible for life and health of our pets but our final goal is to find new owner for them.Sometimes we manage it.As the number of our animals always grows we had to rent a country house in Anau and moved all pets there, however the money was enough only for eight months.
The help came suddenly two young women clubbed together to buy us a country cottage.
In most cases, we correct somebody’s fault or negligence taking care of deserted animals but if you only knew how many responsive people we met!Taking this opportunity I would like to express the gratitude everyone for the help and, first of all, the ladies who bought us a country house as well as wonderful vet doctor Jennet Nurmuhammedova who treats our animals free of charge.

- I never think about this but it is the fact that we make use not only to the animals but to people as well.As it is not only the tramps which get to our shelter but also lost animals sometimes.
Once we found well-groomed dogs without one front leg.I made a post in social networks that we found three-legged Ginger and he awaits for his owner in the shelter and asks to call on 866471501.
Somebody from the friends of the owner has read the post occasionally… the touchy meeting took place three months after, the owner and the dog were so happy as no one can love as dogs love.
In February of the year before last, the tenants of one of living estates told us that there are 7 half-dead puppies under transformation booth.The mother, who they feed all together, disappeared without a trace.
We nursed the puppies (6 male and 1 female dogs) back to health with cow milk, egg yolk and honey instead mother milk.Cute puppies were taken away immediately once I placed their photos on the net but the girl stayed with us.
In the middle of March, I has a phone call.The girl told me: “My birthday is on February 2.This is the day when the puppies were born, who were left without mother, that is why I agree for the girl”.
Such pleasant moments happen in our work all the time.
Nevertheless, there is another side of our mission, the financial one. To feed the dogs we bought 100-litter cauldron. We have to go to Teke bazar every day to buy the meat variety and cereals for cooking. It turns into large amount of money and plus, we need the food for cats and vaccination expenses.
We had problem with water supply few days ago - the water well has dried out. We asked for help in social media. Our voluntary assistant found and paid to people who drilled new well and installed the pump.
- Some of my friends want to provide financial assistance to you but they do not know how to do this.
- Before, all transactions were in made in “hungry telephone” format, which is very common around the world. Those, who wished to send us money, put it on our number 86647150 and we cashed it afterwards.
Now, after official registration as an individual enterprise, we have an official account in Senagat JSC Bank No.23202934170668809071000.We are happy that our voluntary mission for care of the animals met actual support from the government and private structures who are willing to help with vaccines and animal care means, with food and construction of the nursery for the pets.
Being entrepreneurs, we have to make money and hence, we plan to open the hotel for dogs and cats to make free the owners who leave on business trips or on vacation from temporary placement of their pets. We also plan to open a training ground for the work of dog experts and vet clinic.
We are thankful to all our partial, sensitive and active voluntary assistants who helped us all this time and provided us with quality consultancy and practical aid. Their attention indicates on the openness and humanity of our society where the problems are solved together in people come for help without hesitation.
